How to install the latest Windows 7 x64 Broadcom Bluetooth drivers for Sony Vaio VGN-SZ770N and possibly for many other notebooks

Sony produces great stuff, but when it comes to the drivers support, they are unbelievably inconsistent and confusing with their driver releases.

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ770N notebook and it was a painful experience to get Windows 7 32bit install with all the proper drivers, and for the 64bit, it was even harder.

Bluetooth was working only half way with the drivers and after Windows Update. My Bluetooth module was BCM2046 (which Windows detects as ALPS brand)

After some digging around with Google, I found this tool directly from Broadcom, which supposedly detects and automatically downloads the latest stack.

However, running the tool while the default Windows 7 driver is loaded, does not allow it to properly detect the Bluetooth module and it will not download the latest Broadcom software.

Well I looked further and I found some working 64bit drivers for Acer Aspire marked “Broadcom Bluetooth Driver v6.2.1.1200″ that I downloaded and installed and it enabled all of my Bluetooth functionality.

You can get them here or here.

Then I ran again the Broadcom setup tool and it finally worked and downloaded the latest x64 stack which currently is version 6.3.0.6700. It now detects my Bluetooth as Sony Alps Device and works great!

  1. I got a new Sony Vaio YB, the 11.6″ screen and they dont support 64 bit OS. I got my Microsoft Bluetooth mouse to work, but I just cant get my Voyager Pro to work at all. Then I download this and it work.

The Broadcom thing didnt work for me. I already had my headphone in pair mode, but it just would not install!

Then I download your software and now my headphone is working!

    Thanks so much!

BTW, where to get the latest version next time?
